Boating Safety Officer

Boating Service OfficerBoating Safety Officers (BSOs) are employed across NSW to ensure that all people using the waterways of NSW do so in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.

BSOs undertake patrols and inspections to ensure that waterways users are complying with the requirements of licensing, registration, speed limits, aquatic events and pollution controls.

They provide community education on a wide range of recreational boating activities, such as boating safety and environmental issues including pollution control. They also provide customer service to the boating public both in and out of the office.

Customer Service Officer

Customer Service OfficerCustomer Service Officers (CSOs) are employed in all NSW Maritime Customer Service Centres to provide an efficient and effective service to our clients. They support the work of our on-water colleagues and have a wealth of knowledge about our products and services.

CSOs provide advice and assistance to NSW Maritime clients in the office, on the phone, at external events and through correspondence. They provide information on recreational and commercial boating matters such as moorings, boat licences and vessel registrations.

Environmental Services Officer

Environmental Service OfficerEnvironmental Services Officers (ESO) work on Sydney Harbour ensuring it is clean and free from navigational hazards. Officers work on a 3 days on/3 days off roster and form part of a multi-skilled ESO team which is on duty 365 days a year. In addition to its daily functions, the team is also responsible for buoy laying and crowd control services at special events such as Australia Day, the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race and the New Year’s Eve celebrations.

Policy Officer

Policy OfficerPolicy Officers develop both operational and non-operational policy as well as procedures, guidelines, reports and submissions relating to marine safety, environment, port matters, maritime security, NSW Maritime products and services, and related issues. They must take into consideration the views of various stakeholders and ensure legislative compliance, timeliness, non-ambiguity and customer orientation.
