Emerging Technology

New Vessel Types

Those considering importing or introducing a new type or style of vessel to NSW, should firstly contact Maritime to determine whether the vessel could potentially be an "unsafe vessel" in accordance with the Marine Safety Act. Vessels considered to be unsafe will not be registered.

Email us at newvesseltypes@rms.nsw.gov.au to provide as much information about your proposal as possible together with your name and contact details. You may wish to include photographs and/or links to websites.

Information Sheets

Maritime compiles information about emerging vessel safety technologies and uses it to prepare information sheets to assist members of the boating community when they are considering installing new safety equipment.

Disclaimer: Maritime does not recommend or endorse any of the technologies, proprietary brands or products mentioned here. It simply provides a description of the technology and the advantages and disadvantages of that technology as perceived by Maritime.
