Revised requirements for commercial waterski and aquaplane vessels

NSW Maritime has recently revised its Guidelines for the Granting of Exemptions to Operators of Commercial Waterski and Aquaplane Vessels.  Under the new Guidelines, the driver of the vessel no longer needs a Certificate of Competency.

They now only require a General Boat Licence or Personal Watercraft Licence, in addition to successful training and assessment relating to key competencies needed for operating a commercial waterski or aquaplane vessel safely.

This change has been made in response to industry feedback, and represents a significant reduction in ‘red tape’ for both owners and drivers.

While licensing requirements have been eased, other important safety-related aspects of the Guidelines have not changed, including those relating to engine safety and first aid qualifications.
